Saturday I attended a workshop on Bats with Kim.  We spent 4 hours listening to this guy talking about bats.  It was all really interesting but I could have done with more breaks as I did struggle a little to stay focused on what he was saying.  I hadn’t realised that there were so many different species to be found in
Britain. It was also interesting to learn more about the law and how it protects them.

After a tea break we headed outside to see if we could find any bats using the bat detector.  Our first one was a Noctule, then we found some Pipistrelles, and finally down by the river we saw a Daubenton’s bat.  We probably would have been able to spot them without the detector, but there is no way you’d be able to tell which species they were so it was great to have an expert with us telling us exactly what we were watching.  I shall definitely be keeping my eyes open now, and will try and work out which species the one I see flying in our garden is.
